WELDER

Program Description

The Pre-employment Welder program is a great way to launch a career in welding. This 12-week program includes all course material required for a first year welding apprentice such as Oxyacetylene Welding, Shielded Metal Arc Welding; including additional hours in gas metal arc welding, layout, fabrication and job search skills.

You will use welding technology to join, shape and cut metal parts to make pressure vessels and pipelines, join beams or girders in the construction industry, and manufacture industrial components and consumer goods.

Many welders in Alberta are employed in oil and gas related industries, particularly oil service and pipeline construction. Experienced welders may advance to positions such as supervisors, welding inspectors and quality control inspectors or start their own businesses with either a shop or a mobile welder.

Upon successful completion of this program you will be able to write the first year Alberta apprenticeship exam.
